Information on the outcomes of the Fourth Meeting of the Ministers of Internal Affairs and Public Security of the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization

On August 18, 2022, in the framework of the presidency of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (hereinafter the SCO), the Fourth Meeting of the Ministers of Internal Affairs and Public Security of the SCO Member States was held in Tashkent.

The leadership and representatives of the ministries of Internal Affairs and Public Security of the SCO member states and SCO permanent bodies attended the Meeting chaired by the Uzbek side. Representatives of the SCO observer states and international organizations, including INTERPOL, Bureau for the Coordination of Combating organised crime and the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center, also attended the Meeting.

During the open and friendly Meeting, the heads of delegations exchanged views on international and regional security issues, further developing cooperation in combating terrorism, extremism and separatism, and transnational organised crime. They also reached a high level of mutual understanding on the need to consolidate the efforts of Member States SCO.

The Conference participants called for further intensification of interaction within the SCO through the Ministries of Internal Affairs and Public Security of the member states, taking into account the growing instability and uncertainty in the international arena.

They stressed that the development of cooperation in combating terrorism, extremism and separatism, illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, and maintaining peace, stability and security within the SCO is a matter of priority and urgency.

The ministers unanimously emphasised the importance of open dialogue and practical cooperation in combating transnational organised crime under the "Shanghai spirit" principles.

The parties noted the necessity to implement the Agreement on cooperation between the governments of the SCO member states in the fight against crime (Tashkent, June 11, 2010), as well as to further improve the legal framework of the SCO through the interaction of the Ministries of Internal Affairs and Public Security.

The Meeting participants highly appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan in carefully preparing and successfully holding the Fourth Meeting of the Ministers of Internal Affairs and Public Security of the SCO Member States.

The Protocol was signed following the results of the Meeting.

The conference was held officially and constructively in an atmosphere of friendship, mutual trust and cooperation.
